Our energy for a sustainable life – this is the new RWE
Electricity is the energy of our times. The further digitalisation and electrification advance, the greater the demand for a constant and secure supply of electricity. At the same time, climate change demands that we decisively cut emissions. This presents society with an enormous challenge: how can we meet both our increasing electricity requirements and at the same time protect the climate?
The conversion of the energy supply system is the key to a sustainable future. It can only be successful if renewables are expanded quickly and decisively. Sustainable electricity generation is thus becoming a promising growth market. We see a big opportunity for combining commercial viability and sustainability – and we intend to exploit this opportunity. As a leading electricity producer, we take the initiative in providing clean electricity generation.
We have thus defined the purpose of the new RWE as: “Our energy for a sustainable life”. We will put all our energy into making a sustainable life possible.
In order to fill this new claim with life, we have set ourselves ambitious targets. We will significantly reduce our own carbon emissions. We will be carbon neutral by 2040 and renewables will be our sole generation source by then. We want to do this as efficiently as possible in order to supply electricity that is clean, affordable and always available.
Our new ambition in one sentence:
We will be carbon neutral by 2040, with clean, secure and affordable energy.
From this goal we have derived our mission. It will guide all our future decisions at RWE.
We are investing massively in expanding renewables. We are consistently reducing our carbon emissions until we become carbon neutral by 2040.
